FAQ - Abstracts
How do I submit an abstract?
Online abstract submission is now open for free communication sessions (oral and poster presentation sessions) to be presented at the 45th Union World Conference on Lung Health. Abstracts must be submitted online only - any abstracts sent in by email will not be accepted.
Please click here to be directed to The Union Services page where you will have the following two options:
- New Users:
- If this is your first time logging onto the site, click the 'FIRST VISIT' button. Here you will be asked for you CU number (Union Membership number) if you have one, and/or your email address to be filled out and submitted. You will still be able to sign up an account. If you do not have a CU number fill out your User Account Information and password and click 'REGISTER' once all fields are completed.

- Once logged in, you will be directed to the services page, where you will see the conferences icon.
- Click on the 'Conferences' icon and then choose 'Abstract Submission'
If you are already registered with The Union, fill in your email address and password in the top right hand box and click the 'SEND' button. You will be brought to the Union Services page.
If you have forgotten your password please click the 'Forgot your password?' section and you will be sent a new automatically generated password. Please log back in with this new password - you will be able to change your password once logged in.
I'm having difficulties accessing the submission. How can I proceed?
You are requested to register on the online abstract submission system by entering an email address (or a CU number if you are a Union member) and a password if you have already used the system in the past. If you are a first-time user click on 'First Visit' and follow the instructions on the screen.
What is the format of the abstract?
Information on the format of the abstract (language, category, number of characters, etc) is included in the submission guidelines accessible on the abstract menu once you are registered for the online submission. It can be found in the 'GUIDELINES' menu in the online abstract submission system.
Can I choose the abstract session in which I will present?
No, you cannot. Following the reviewing process, abstracts are allocated to a designated session (oral or poster presentation). The Scientific Programme Committee is the only authority entitled to select a session for your abstract.
Can my abstract be re-considered for the reviewing process?
Submitted abstracts are reviewed only once by a panel of international reviewers. Non-approved abstracts will not be considered for a second reviewing process.
Can I change the date of my presentation?
No, the date of presentation of your abstract cannot be changed. The dates of each session are planned by the Scientific Programme Committee.
Can I present my abstract in Spanish?
Although three languages are accepted for abstract submission (French, English and Spanish), please keep in mind that delegates attending the conference come from over 100 countries and therefore English is the most common language for abstract presentation.
How will I know that my abstract has been submitted?
A confirmation of submission is automatically sent to the email address you have entered when submitting your abstract. Make sure to enter a correct and updated email address.
Can I submit several abstracts?
Yes, you can submit several abstracts provided that they do not contain the same material. Abstracts with the same material will not be considered for review.
My abstract has already been submitted to another conference/published. Can I submit it again?
Only original productions will be considered for review. Abstracts should not be submitted if the content is to be published or presented elsewhere before presentation at the 2014 World conferene on Lung Health.
My abstract exceeds the number of characters accepted. Will it still be reviewed?
All the abstracts submitted and validated by the deadline will be reviewed, including those with truncated text. However, the truncation may result in a poor understanding of your abstract. Accepted abstracts will be published exactly as they have been submitted.
My abstract has been accepted for presentation. Can I update it as some data are no longer relevant?
Accepted abstracts can no longer be modified. However, when presenting your abstract, feel free to inform the audience on any new data and information that may have arrived since the submission.
Can I have the technical specifications enabling me to prepare my poster?
Technical specifications for your poster and guidelines dedicated to abstract authors will be available shortly. These specifications will be confirmed in the letter of acceptance of your abstract.
How can I improve my abstract writing skills?
This year The Union will once again offer the Abstract Mentor Programme to encourage the participation of young and/or less experienced investigators from low-resource settings. The Abstract Mentor Programme is designed for those who intend to submit an abstract for presentation and who lack access to opportunities for mentoring in research and writing. Using this programme, authors are able to ask for feedback from experienced researchers before proceeding with the online submission of their papers.
